    New assistance system delivers precision knife management for forage harvesting

    CLAAS is introducing Cemos Auto Knife Condition, a new assistance system for its JAGUAR 900 and 900 TERRA TRAC series, ahead of AGRITECHNICA 2025. The system monitors knife wear in real time and enables on-demand grinding, supporting precision cutting, fuel efficiency, and sustainability in forage harvesting operations. 

    Using two reluctance sensors positioned above the crop channel, the system measures knife geometry across the full width of the chopping cylinder via a static magnetic field, entirely outside the crop flow. Operators set sharpening preferences and grinding strategies via the CEBIS terminal, and the system alerts them when knives need attention. 

    This approach replaces fixed interval maintenance with data-driven, condition-based grinding. Knives are serviced sooner under abrasive conditions and later when wear is low, maintaining cutting quality, improving forage quality, and reducing unnecessary energy and material use.

    • Geo-referenced wear tracking via CLAAS connect 
    • Detailed documentation of wear for improved farm management and reporting 

    “This is a step forward in precision forage harvesting,” said CLAAS. “Cemos Auto Knife Condition allows operators to manage knife wear intelligently, enhancing cutting performance while supporting sustainable and efficient operations.” 

    The system also enables area-specific wear documentation, helping contractors and farmers optimise the entire harvesting process.
