At Agritechnica 2025, Ecorobotix demonstrated a world-first application of artificial intelligence for ultra-precision crop protection. The system applied non-selective contact herbicides while safeguarding surrounding crops, using plant-by-plant detection and a Safety Zone feature that created virtual protective buffers around each plant.
This approach allowed even small weeds near crops to be controlled effectively, while minimising chemical use. Beyond herbicides, the system also applied fertilisers, biostimulants, and insecticides with a 6×6 cm spray footprint, reducing overall inputs by up to 95%.
With tightening regulations on selective herbicides, such as the European withdrawal of metribuzin, Ecorobotix’s AI technology offered growers a practical alternative that maintained crop performance and reduced environmental impact.
Simon Gasser, Agronomist and Crop Algorithm Product Manager at Ecorobotix, said the system gave farmers “greater control and flexibility, helping them safely transition to non-selective herbicides while protecting yields.”
The demonstration covered a wide range of crops, highlighting how AI can identify and treat each plant individually, reduce chemical use, and enhance sustainability. Ecorobotix’s showcase underlined the growing role of intelligent technology in precision farming, setting a new benchmark for efficiency, safety, and environmental stewardship in crop protection.
