    Precision Fertiliser Application Gets Smarter with New NIR Sensor

    A new sensor system promises to transform liquid manure application by combining real-time nutrient analysis with automated rate adjustment. The NIRScan system, developed through a collaboration between Samson Agro and Zeiss, continuously measures nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content during slurry application, ensuring even distribution across the field and reducing over-application. 

    The system is centered on Zeiss’s HALOS® mobile laboratory, which features advanced optics and electronics to provide consistent, robust, field-ready measurements. Data can be integrated with ISOBUS-compatible control systems, enabling documentation of nutrient delivery and variable-rate application according to crop requirements or pre-planned maps. 

    Beyond slurry tankers, HALOS® can be adapted for use on forage harvesters, combine harvesters, or stationary setups. The technology reduces environmental impact, supports EU nitrate directive compliance, and improves economic efficiency by optimizing nutrient use. 

    NIRScan is in its final validation phase, with a limited release expected in Germany in spring 2026. The system reflects the AGRITECHNICA 2025 theme of “Touch Smart Efficiency” and will be featured in Hall 23, alongside other precision farming innovations.
