After a successful outing at Agritechnica, the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural technology, Garford Farm Machinery has followed up that presence with news of double award success, ahead of next year’s LAMMA Show.
With the first units now released to market, the Garford Electric Weeder was the centre-piece of a busy presence for Garford Farm Machinery and Zurn Harvesting at Agritechnica 2025.
The advanced weeding technology, co-developed with electric weed control manufacturer RootWave and Garford, the UK manufacturer of advanced mechanical weed control, combines best-in-class power electronics, imaging and artificial intelligence to create an unrivalled weed control solution for row-crops.
And on return from Germany, the Garford team were greeted with the news that the Garford Electric Weeder has scooped silver awards in both the Machine of the Year and the Future Innovation for Environmental Benefit of the Year categories, in the LAMMA Innovation Awards, 2026.
These awards will be presented to the team during the LAMMA Show at the NEC, Birmingham (14-15 Jan 2026).
“This next generation electrical weeding technology uses electricity to boil weeds and their roots, providing better weed control at a lower cost than chemical herbicides,” explains Garford managing director, Jonathan Henry.
Trade missions from the USA, Sweden and Turkey, including US peppermint grower groups, and various farmer co-operatives and dealer delegations, were amongst the visitors drawn to the technology on stand at Agritechnica.
This included major delegations and representatives from the UK, in particular prominent vegetable and salad growers, as well as organic carrot growers.
“We have seen a huge amount of interest and it really has become a highlight of our event participation, particularly as it is compatible with both organic and regenerative farming systems,” adds Mr Henry.
The Garford Electric Weeder integrates electrical weeding into precision guided toolbar systems, for salad, brassica and vegetable crops, as well as broadacre arable applications.
“With the first models already sold and in use, and orders placed and incoming across the UK and Europe, alongside huge interest from the US and other key territories, the Electric Weeder represents a sustainable solution, not only resolving a compelling need for users to manage weed challenges now, but for seasons to come,” Mr Henry explains.
