Partnership To Expand Global Agricultural Connectivity

Connected farms has announced a collaboration with Amazon’s project kuiper satellite network to deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity to farms operating beyond the reach of terrestrial broadband. The agreement was revealed at Agritechnica in Hanover and is aimed at enabling consistent digital communications for modern, data-driven agriculture.

Project kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite programme, built around a constellation of thousands of interconnected satellites designed to deliver low-latency internet access worldwide. High-speed optical links between satellites form a resilient mesh network in space, supported by a global ground infrastructure of antennas, fibre and internet connection points.

By integrating project kuiper into its CommsXtend connectivity platform, connected farms aims to provide the communications backbone required to support precision farming technologies, autonomous machinery, robotics, sensors and real-time data systems. The collaboration addresses what many growers describe as “digital darkness”, where unreliable connectivity limits access to market information, weather data, remote diagnostics and advanced machine functionality.

With dependable broadband access, connected farms says growers will be able to unlock remote monitoring and diagnostics between equipment manufacturers and machines in the field, reducing downtime and speeding up repairs. The system also enables real-time sensor data collection, AI-driven decision support, and secure data processing across the device, farm-edgeand cloud environments.

The kuiper-powered CommsXtend system will use a purpose-built, ruggedised satellite terminal designed for mobile and industrial use. Rated to IP67, the phased-array antenna is engineered to operate reliably in demanding agricultural conditions, including dust, vibration, rain and wide temperature fluctuations commonly experienced on farm machinery.

Connected farms will begin piloting the new service in 2026, with initial roll-outs planned across the UK and North America. Wider availability will follow as the project kuiper satellite constellation continues to expand.
