    • The SKAi spot spraying system represents a significant leap forward in agricultural technology. Powered by advanced AI and precision imaging, it identifies and targets weeds at the individual plant level, applying herbicides only where necessary. This breakthrough dramatically reduces chemical use—by up to 95%—while optimising crop health and minimising environmental impact.

The SKAi spot spraying system, a flagship product of SoilEssentials, can detect and target weeds with remarkable accuracy, applying herbicide only where needed. This not only reduces chemical usage but also helps protect the environment by promoting healthier crop growth and preserving soil quality. Trained to work in a range of weed and volunteer plant scenarios – dock infestations in grassland and now being put to work in high value arable crops, such as onions and broccoli, effectively tackling volunteer potatoes. Further models to expand and enhance the system are underway.

Interest in SKAi spot spraying technology is growing, as systems continue to deliver proven success in the UK and the Netherlands. SKAi sprayers, designed by the inhouse team at SoilEssentials and built by Team Sprayers, are currently being sold with 12 metre or 15m booms but the introduction of a 24metre option expands the range offering the user even greater efficiency.

This product emphasises SoilEssentials’ commitment providing real, beneficial solutions, and bringing agricultural technologies to the customer, providing farmers with the advanced tools necessary to meet the challenges of modern agriculture.

Speaking of these innovative solutions, SoilEssentials MD Jim Wilson stated “The detection and management of weeds and volunteers in crops has long been a challenge for those hoping to use precision farming technology to guide their spray applications. The artificial intelligence we developed with SKAi means that the identification and targeted spot spraying of individual pest plants is a real and viable option. The system is revolutionising farming practices, vastly reducing agri-chemical usage, leading to increased efficiencies and better environmental credibility.”

SoilEssentials recently earned the coveted AgriScot Product Innovation Award for the technology. The AgriScot judging panel praised the SKAi system for its innovative design and potential to transform farming practices. It offers farmers an opportunity to save costs, improve efficiency, and adopt more sustainable approaches to crop management.

“We were delighted to receive this honour,” said Gregor Welsh, General Manager at SoilEssentials. “The SKAi system is a testament to our vision of integrating cutting-edge technology into agriculture to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”

SoilEssentials has been actively demonstrating the technology with more opportunities to see the technology in action this year.

The SKAi spot spraying system is available to the UK market, with a retrofit service also applicable to other sprayer brands.
